ETNT: As a New Artist, what is it like?
ORLANDO: Well I am not really new, you might remind me from the Kids Carousel, Junior Soca onarch, I won that in 2004, I have been on tour in the US before with Soca-Rama and did a couple of competitions over there.”
ETNT: What type of girls are you attracted to? Why did you write and sing Darkie?
ORLANDO: Actually I go for (blush) “red skinned” girls, but complexion does not really matter. I sang about ‘Darkie’ because Darkies don’t have a song. In a country like Trinidad where there are lots of red women always get the ‘rate up’ and I just wanted to bring something for the Darkie” dem. It took me about one hour to write that song. I actually like Rasta women too (blush) I don’t know why; women who have a good head on their shoulders and push a positive vibe, I also have a thing for older women (laugh).
ETNT: Is there a story behind your look/image?
ORLANDO: Actually I was bald head before, when I had corn rows, then afro, and just decided to grow a ras jus for so and then found out the meaning behind it afterwards, the religious side of it and took it into practice - the conscious vibes and the nature that comes with it. I don’t smoke though; look at my lips, see how pink these lips are?
ETNT: Are you single or taken? Why are you single?
ORLANDO: I am single. I have not found a woman on my kind of level to understand that being an artiste; I will not have time to talk to them every day. Not everyone understands me being single. I had bad experiences already. Yeah! It was not meant to be, I like to deal with more serious women on the whole because girls my age maybe don’t know what they want right now and I aint in to that (laugh). I have been single for almost one year, that’s why my sex life
is cold and phased out.
ETNT: What is your personal view on marriage?
ORLANDO: “Marriage is only right” I want to get married within the next three to four years.
ETNT: What is your sex life like?
ORLANDO: Wild and Freaky but I have not had any in a little while due to being single and all that. It’s phased out (laugh), it cold! (laugh)
ETNT: What was your most embarrassing moment/ what was the weirdest thing that ever happened in your performances?
ORLANDO: Hmm, What to choose from? I had quite a few. I had an interview on dateline with Alison and I was sick at that time, I went to sing and during the performance I was feeling even more and more sick, I had the flu. I just leave the mic and walked off the stage on live television eh! I think that was pretty embarrassing (laugh)
ETNT: What was your best memory ever?
ORLANDO: Back in 1999 for my birthday 6th August, my father asked me what I wanted and I told him I wanted to enter Promenade Summer… And I won it !...Remember the lil boy with “read yuh bible”, “alphabet thing”?
ETNT: Who taught you to sing?
ORLANDO: My father and looking at other performers.I think he (father) saw the talent that I had from early.
ETNT: Who is your role model in terms of music inspiration?
ORLANDO: Super Cat, because he sings about any and every thing; Lauryn Hill also with the singing and rapping and reggae. Jack of all trades, that’s where I want to head.
ETNT: How did you reach where you arenow; who helped you rise to stardom?
ORLANDO: I’ll have to say my Dad and a guy named Romal Champin.
ETNT: Where do you see your career in the next 5 years?
ORLANDO: Trinidad’s biggest thing, biggest thing out a Trinidad. Dominating all fields in the music industry. My goal is to dominate all types of music in the World.
ETNT: What do you do in your spare time? What do you do for fun?
ORLANDO: I like to be a quiet person, go to the beach, go clubbing at times; football, river lime’, basketball but I’m too short for that anyway.
ETNT: What influences your music?
ORLANDO: I’ll have to say, the realities of life. Life on the Whole.
ETNT: What makes you really mad or upset?
ORLANDO: Hmm I don’t know where to start, so many things-: being ‘pessed’, nagging, lies and people who pretend to be things that they are not.
ETNT: What is your friend network like and how do they influence your work?
ORLANDO: They always try to keep on top of the game, give me pointers. I don’t have much friends.
ETNT: How long did you want to entertain?
ORLANDO: Since I know myself.
ETNT: What would you like to tell your fans?
ORLANDO: Ladies out there, holla at yuh boy (LAUGH)… and just put the most high first in everything yuh do and peace and love, be safe for the rest of the year 2008 and for more and be careful of the things you do in the world today. Peace and Love, done know, Nuff respect.
